Get Your Sniff On..!
Scent Detection is based on the nose work practised by sniffer, search & rescue, and medical detection dogs, and sees dogs using their sense of smell to identify and locate a scent which they have been previously trained to detect. It is a natural behaviour for dogs, who have highly sensitive noses, vastly superior to our own. Adapted for owners and their dogs as a sport and training activity, it works the dog’s brain and nose while solidifying the bond of trust between dog and owner.

Who can take part?
Our classes are suitable for all breeds and most ages of dogs (puppies from 16 weeks), and for dogs with injuries or disabilities – scentwork is a safe, low-impact and non-injurious sport.

What will we get out of it?
Scent Detection training is so much fun for both you and your dog – the results are rewarding, and your dog will be mentally satisfied and tired after a session. Shy dogs are seen to build confidence and boisterous dogs to find focus in only a short time. Your bond with your dog will strengthen as you each learn the language of Scent Detection.
How do I start and progress?
UK Sniffer Dogs Bronze Series 1 & 2
You'll start with Bronze Series 1 & 2 Workshops.
Designed for absolute beginners, each is a 3 hour session covering the basics of scent detection.
Once you have completed these workshops, you can compete in our Bronze Trials, and/or begin attending our Improvers'/Continuation Classes to prepare for your Silver/Gold Classes.

UK Sniffer Dogs Silver Series 3 & 4
Once you've completed your Bronze Series 1 & 2 Workshops, and attended sufficent Improvers' Classes, you can choose to progress to your Silver/Gold Classes. These won't involve a workshop, but you will still work towards your Silver and Gold qualifications.

UK Sniffer Dogs Gold Series 5 & 6
With Bronze and Silver under your belts there'll be no stopping you! Our Gold Classes are the most challenging we currently offer.
Once you've completed your Silver qualification, you'll stay in the same class, but work on Gold level detection, with your best friend finally qualifying as a true Gold Scent Detection Dog.

Who Will be teaching us?
Instructor: Nikki Turner
Nikki holds a Merit pass for the UK Sniffer Dogs Bronze Trial with her Dachshund cross, Eric, and for the Gold Trial with both Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Pearl, and her Miniature Dachshund, Theo. She was runner up Scentwork UK Dog and Handler of the year 2021 with Theo, and is currently competing at Level 7 with Scentwork UK. She is qualified to teach Bronze, Silver and Gold for UK Sniffer Dogs, and Levels 1-6 for Scentwork UK. She hold City & Guilds Certificates in Instruction and Scent Detection Dog Handling with The UK College of Scent Dogs, and is an accredited Mantrailing Global Instructor.
